Announcing Highlights V2 and more ...

Highlights V2

The most important change in the new release is our updated version of Highlights (aka "Document Reviewer"). The changes here address several problems with the existing reviewer, such a slow conversion times, slow load times, and not being very mobile responsive.

Faster Processing and Progress Bars

Under the hood we've completely re-engineered the process we use for preparing documents to be reviewable in CaseFleet. The process is now extremely fast because it breaks each document into parts and handles each part at the same time. We also share more information on the processing steps for a document, so you'll see a progress bar to give you an idea of how much more time will be required for the document to finish processing:

Fast Loading and Navigation

This change also makes opening a document you've uploaded very snappy. Highlights will open almost immediately to the selected page, no matter how large the document is. A 5,000 page document will open as quickly as a one page document! Then, paging through the document is almost instantaneous:

The next page almost appears as quickly as you can press the button. You can also use the page up and page down keys (or the left and right arrows) to navigate.

See Which Pages Have Facts and Issues

Next, as you can see, the reviewer interface has some new buttons and actions. First, let's take a look at the page chooser:

When you're working on a big document, it is really helpful to see where you left off and where the important sections are. With our new page chooser, you can see exactly how many facts you created on each page, as well as the issues that were included in those facts. Rather than writing the issues out, we show a small square with their assigned color.

Document Resizing and Positioning

We've also added controls for zooming in and out, rotating, and changing the position of the page. If you ever encounter a page that's too big, or upside down, or too small, you can change your view as much as needed to see what you need to see. Here's what this looks like:

Responsive Design

Finally, all of this has been engineered to work well on small screens. At last, you can review documents and create facts directly on your smartphone.

Advanced Fact Filters

At the same time we release Highlights V2, we'll also be releasing new-and-improved filters for facts in Timelines. To date, we've offered filters for issues, contacts, and sources, but these were combined in the most restrictive manner possible, and didn't really cover all the use cases for filtering in a larger case. For example, in you can filter for facts that include issue A AND issue B AND contact Q, but you couldn't replace any of those ANDs with ORs or NOTs. Now you can easily form advanced filters:

Here, the fact date options are applied across the board: only facts within the range or without a date will be included. On the other hand, the list of filters below can be toggled between an AND and on OR combination. For each field, you have a variety of options, and you can add as many filters as you like. The possibilities are nearly unlimited.

Streamlined Fact Creation and More Responsive Design

We also make a few small changes to the row of actions that sits above the facts on the facts page. Instead of having to click twice to create a fact, you can now click directly on the "Create Fact" button to create a new fact. If you want to create an issue, source, or contact, click on the right side of the button to open the dropdown menu:

The bar where this button resides is also a bit narrower now so that you can see more facts on the page, which also frees up precious space for working on a mobile device:

What's Next?

Once Highlights V2 is released, we're planning to add several enhancements to it. First, we're planning to incorporate automatic character recognition in uploaded documents. Second, we're hoping to make documents text-searchable within the scope of a case. Finally, we want to enable you to download document bundles in connection with your reports; this will enable you to download a .zip file with all of the cited documents in the report or only the specific pages that you cited.

Let us know if you have any other requests or ideas! Also, in case you were wondering about Practice Manager, we've got quite a few exciting features planned for it as well. Stay posted!
